So, my first post. Well seeing as I’ve just come back from a pretty amazing trip to Italy I’ll tell you a little bit about it, complete with a few photos.
For this holiday I can only thank my good friend, whose friend we stayed with. Nestled in the footholds of the mountains in northern Italy, Sally’s centuries-old flat is evococative of a time gone by. In true Romeo and Juliet style, the balcony looks out onto a courtyard, and at dusk when the shadows bounce of the surrounding walls it isn’t hard to imagine it being the setting for a romantic love story.

Most days were spent by Lake Como, where we sunbathed, snorkelled and swam. The only disheartening factor about the whole experience was the hoardes of bikini-clad slim Italian women who emerged from the water like Ursella Andress in Dr No. Lets just say I was feeling decidedly translucent and slightly untoned after my first day!
On day two we travelled for two hours to Camogli on the Italian Riviera. This is an enchanting fishing town as well as a popular holiday hotspot, you can see why…
A spectacular view in Camogli….

A slightly less spectacular view in Camogli…but still unarguably the best comb over EVER!

Unsurprisingly, seeing as we were visiting a fishing town, fish was one the menu in the evening. Yum, calamari, fried anchovies, prawn and chips on the beach.

Among the various and fabulous trips to the lake, riviera, the mountains and Milan…Venice has to be the highlight of the whole trip. What can I say, its a city built on water. What can beat that???

As I watched the smoldering sun set over Venice, not only was I relieved that we had been given a respite from the 40oC heat of the day, but I was also mesmerised by the beauty of the low sun which flickered and shone off the ripples in the water. The lengthening shadows hinted towards the arrival of darkness as they played off the building walls, making the whole city majestic and enchanting. What could be more magical than that?
Now however its back to reality, although I’m lucky enough to be heading off to Mallorca next week with the family. It might not be Italia, but its still the med so I’m not complaining!
Well I think that this is quite long enough for a first post, so I’ll wind it off here. As soon as I do some cooking I’ll post some pics, I brought back some prosciutto which needs eating up so I’m sure that I’ll update soon with a scrumptious Italian inspired recipe.
