Nigella, eat your heart out…

Only a geek like me could choose to spend all of saturday chopping, blending, icing and cutting out hudreds of tiny marzipan carrots. Yep, that’s right…today was the official bake-athalon; although I’m not so sad as to pre-plan a baking marathon on my own. Oh no, the event was held at my friend’s house and it involved a total of four hungry bakers.

So, first up was pizza. After deciding that the ‘buy a Sainsbury’s basic margarita pizza and then chuck on some toppings’ approach would probably be an insult to our baking day, we bought the ingredients to make it from scratch (well, sort of)

After making up our bases from a packet mix (sorry), we added homemade passata, pepperoni, mozzarella and basil.

After eating our delicious pizzas we cracked on with the pièce de résistance – the carrot cake.

As you can see, we went a tad over the top with the marzipan carrot making.

Unfortunately I can’t give you a recipe for this cake; it was one of those situations where you’re lacking a few ingredients, so you just chuck in everything from your cupboards and hope it turns out well. And turn out well it certainly did…mmmm this cake was SO good; moist, buttery and oh so carroty.

So a successful day of baking was had by all, even if I do now feel very very sick….

  1. I would like to make it very very clear that it was not me who made the marzipan carrots, but my friend Georgia. In fact I only made the lines in the carrots, and as she says ‘there would be no lines if there were no carrots. (And before there are any more arguments, my friend Erin is responsible for making the leaves).
