Rome and Home

One long summer later and I’m home. I’ve returned to my family and my bed and Robinson’s squash and all of the other longed-after English food stuffs I’ve missed so dearly. Ahhhh…it sure does feel good to be home. Even though it’s cloudy and despite the fact that I now have to begin the long process of sorting out another au pair job for the autumn, for me home is as warm as that smoldering italian sun.

Between getting lost in the streets of Rome, eating ice cream and then eating more ice cream, I have failed to update my blog for a whole two weeks! Unforgivable. So you better get comfortable, because an awful lot of happenings and food have passed since my last, distant post.

So, results day. As promised, I was a nervous wreck and it wasn’t until mid-morning that I mustered the courage to check my UCAS and discover whether I got into my uni…and guess what? I did! I just had to wait for the arrival of my parents and that brown envelope the next day to find out the full extent of my results. So let’s fast-forward twenty four hours, to the moment my mum handed me the envelope enclosing my grades. Adrenaline and fear pumping through my body (despite the fact I had the luxury of knowing that whatever results I had scraped, they were enough to get me into my uni), I opened the envelope. For some reason still unknown to me, I recieved four As. So as you can imagine, I was happy.

The rest of my Mum and Step-dad’s visit was spent either by the beach, eating olives or waiting for buses. Whilst they soaked up the rays and enjoyed the moment, in my euthora of happiness I spent most of my last days au pairing dreaming about the future. Four days later and it was time to pack my suitcase and say goodbye to the family who brought me into their home and allowed me to fall into place as a member of their family. After a goodbye BBQ we awoke early on the morning of the 24th and, dragging our suitcases silently out of the sleeping house, my family and I started our journey to Rome…

Now I’m hungry for a good old English egg sandwich, so I’ll leave my adventures in Rome for another day…so ciao for now.
