Cioccolata Calda

(Cioccolata calda, with a couple of malted milks for good measure!)

Have one sip of this hot chocolate and you’re a convert. Never again will you look at Cadbury’s in the same way, and as for those ‘Instants’ sachets with the cute little marshmallows? Pft. Utter rubbish. No, after you try the real deal: cioccolata calda, you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

I had my first sip, or should I say spoonful, of heaven on my first trip to Italy. It was at the local bar which conveniantly has a pizzeria attached – a very handy arrangement indeed, especially as the pizza man will come straight into the bar to deliver your pizza, which is then swiftly cut into slices by the barman! Anyway, the first time I tried that velvety, thick moltonous liquid I knew that I was in love….

Here is the recipe so that you can make your very own cup of heaven…

(for one greedy cup)

2 tbsp cocoa powder (if you prefer your drinks sweeter, use half cocoa and half hot chocolate powder)

1-2 tbsp sugar (again, this depends on how sweet you like it)

1 tbsp flour

200 ml cup of milk

1. Mix the cocoa powder, sugar and flour together in a saucepan

2. Add the milk and turn on the heat. Whisk the mixture until it comes to the boil.

3. Serve in cappucino cups, and if you’re feeling particularly greedy top with whipped cream…

Enjoy!
