Heaven on a plate.

So, it was on wednesday the 5th August that I consumed my best meal in Italy to date. In fact, perhaps the best meal of my year, or even of my life. In fact, it makes me question why I bother eating anything else at all, when it’s all completely inferior to this little plate of heaven.

So here it is: spaghetti with clams, tomatoes and this indescribably delicious sauce. Believe it or not, before coming to Italy I was a bit nervous about the whole shellfish scene. I used to look at them with distrust, because lets face it, we’ve all heard of a nightmare food poisoning story involving Great Yarmouth and some dodgy cockles. So, I ate my first mouthful with trepidation, however as soon as I tasted that saltiness combined with the warmth of the pasta and the depth of the sauce I simply fell in love. And it doesn’t stop there, after finishing my pasta another saucepan filled with elegant, ebony mussels appeared on the table. Swimming in a salty, buttery sauce they were completely out of this world. Of course, the whole meal was finished off with perfectly dressed salad and mossarella and fresh fruit for dessert: heaven, heaven, heaven.

Finally, I’d just like to say thank you to Auntie Pauline, Amy, Mum and Kelly (including Dan…maybe) for reading my blog. You five people probably make up my entire readership, so thank you for the support!

  1. Hi Alice how come I did not get a nice comment I read your wonderfull stories as well and reminds me of my days traveling the world when I was working in the mining game, the dish you refer to was simular to a dish I had in Thessolonica in Greece it was a fish and what ever and the eyes were floating but it was a taste you will remember for ever, but Auntie Pauline hasnt a chance of making it the same so guess I will return to that place of wonderfull food one day.

    1. Mummy, no one can beat your roasts (even though you do insist on using Bisto gravy instead of making your own and despite the fact that you ALWAYS forget the bread sauce) but anyway, they are still and always will be the absolute best. However, I’m sorry but no one can beat the Italians at their pasta – the two go together like chocolate sponge and butter icing….

    1. I forgot you, oh no! It seems that I have more readers than I thought – yay! And I am soooo excited about mummy and Ricky coming, even if Mother does keep on threatening to go topless on the beach and despite the fact that Ricky will probably embarrass me by flirting with the kids’ mum…but oh well, it’ll still be fun! xxx

      1. Think I’m too old to go topless Alice, so you don’t have to worry, don’t know about Ricky flirting though…….
